Theatrical Prop Storage Fee Clauses

Legal Definition

Contractual provisions in venue or performance space agreements that impose separate, often vaguely defined, charges for the storage of a production's props, costumes, scenery, or equipment outside of scheduled performance or rehearsal times, typically buried within ancillary fee schedules or 'house rules' sections.

In Plain English

Hidden charges in a theater or performance venue contract that make you pay extra to store your show's stuff (like costumes, sets, or props) between shows, often with unclear rules about what counts as storage and how much it costs.

Example in a Contract
Vendor shall be permitted limited use of the designated Backstage Storage Area for Props and Costumes, subject to availability. 'Storage' is defined as any item left in the Area beyond the 4-hour load-out window following a performance. A monthly Ancillary Storage Fee of $2.50 per cubic foot, or a flat fee of $150 per month, shall be invoiced by the Venue, at its sole discretion. Vendor is responsible for inventory and removal of all items. Venue assumes no liability for stored items.
