Gym Membership Freeze During Military Deployment

Legal Definition

A contractual provision, often mandated by the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) and/or state consumer‑protection statutes, that allows an active‑duty service member to suspend (freeze) the obligations of a gym membership without penalty for the period of a lawful military deployment, typically up to twelve (12) months, upon presentation of official deployment orders.

In Plain English

If you’re deployed in the military, you can pause your gym membership so you don’t have to pay while you’re away.

Example in a Contract
"Member may request a Membership Freeze due to active military deployment in accordance with the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act. Upon receipt of official deployment orders, the Club shall suspend all recurring fees and suspend access privileges for a period not to exceed twelve (12) months. The Member may reactivate the membership by providing written notice at least ten (10) days prior to the intended restart date. No cancellation fees or early‑termination penalties shall apply during the freeze period."
