Equine Boarding Facility Contract Vet Emergency Cost Clause

Legal Definition

A contractual provision in a horse boarding agreement that allocates financial responsibility and outlines procedures for unforeseen, urgent veterinary care required for the boarded horse, typically specifying which party (owner or facility) bears the cost, under what conditions, and any limitations on liability.

In Plain English

The part of your horse boarding contract that decides who pays the bill if your horse suddenly gets very sick or injured and needs a vet right away. It explains when the barn can authorize emergency care and if there's a limit on what they'll pay for.

Example in a Contract
EMERGENCY VETERINARY CARE. In the event of a sudden illness or injury to the Horse requiring immediate veterinary attention, the Facility may, at its sole discretion, authorize such emergency treatment. The Owner shall be immediately notified. All costs for such emergency veterinary services, including but not limited to diagnostics, surgery, medication, and after-care, shall be the sole responsibility of the Owner, provided such care was rendered in good faith and was reasonable under the circumstances. The Facility's liability for such costs shall not exceed the limits of its liability insurance policy. The Owner agrees to reimburse the Facility within fifteen (15) days of invoice presentation.
